Mercury being the lord of education, affects rather adversely such students as those who make excuses in studies, get lower grades, and failures.

 These results are all the more inferior if Aries, Cancer or Capricorn is in the 3rd house. Mercury here positively gives a tendency for lethargy but very convincing arguments or reasoning for non-working, working in piecemeal manner, working with diverted attention and half-heatedly. 

These individuals are generally fond of reading books, periodicals, or even text-books reclining on a couch, sofa, arm-chair or even lying in bed. These individuals are quite attached and affectionate to brothers and sisters, but when call comes for help or support or assistance of any kind, the response is often late, when more or less it becomes unwanted.

 These individuals are good in making excuses and stories of any kind for lapse or failure, and often quite convincingly too. However they have neat and sturdy handwriting, they somehow gain command on language and expression, even on writing speeches and songs infusing bravery and boldness, though they themselves are not good at physical fighting, irrespective of their physical built. 

They generally avoid working long hours at a stretch, but they see to it that they complete the assigned or undertaken job or work within the anticipated time limit. These individuals have no hesitation in cutting cheap jokes and having light (sometimes bordering on erotic or vulgar) talks.
